These works were born out of a realization that the depiction of landscape could be as fierce, abstract, interpretive and physical and any other paintings. After studying the works of Georgia O'Keefe, Emily Carr, Charles Burchfield, William Robinson and others, the scope and amount of freedom possible in depicting our relationship with the earth became apparent. Experiencing the embracing and containing architecture of the kivas in the southwest brought to the artist a new paradigm of relations with spirit, one of community and connection. The circular room is theatre, shamanic entrance, family, tribe, oneness and body. These paintings began an investigation of landscape that has taken her to Antarctica, Kyrgyzstan, Death Valley and many other places to explore our relationship with the earth. |
